My Business Process

My recent business process involves my recent order of an apple macbook. The activity involved in this process was the order that was made online where I had to input my shipping and credit information for the company to confirm my order and ship it to the carrier company. The resources involved were the computer itself that was used to make the transaction and the credit card as well. The facility involved was the warehouse where the item was kept to be picked up by the carrier and information involved was entering the data in order to authorize the transaction and the process of inquiring and tracking the order.

My Favourite Sustainable and Disruptive Technologies

My favorite sustainable technology is the mobile internet. Mobile internet is a major breakthrough in technology because it features fast and reliable internet access for the mobile devices. This reduces the communication gap between two people and is very helpful for businesses. Businesses can take advantage of this because with the technology being at its peak there are several mobile devices out there that are capable of running mobile internet or what we better know as the 3G network. These devices are also specifically made for business people who need to communicate and exchange data on a regular basis. Mobile internet in my opinion is a sustainable technology because it has made provided businesses with a brand new communication infrastructure which makes many processes faster, more efficient with added security, cheaper and reliable.

My favorite disruptive technology is computers. Personal computers have evolved into something totally different that people would not have expected 20 years from now. We have entered a new stream of mobile technology where everything is made more compact and yet designed to be capable of handling more tasks and more efficiently. Computers have gone from big tower PCs to a hand sized device that can perform the same tasks. I would rather call this a disruptive technology because it is continually being made to perform better, faster and cheaper with maximum competition between many companies trying to make their products more efficient and demand fulfilling.

MIS and My Career

Before relating to my career, I would like to briefly explain what the MIS (Management Information System) is. Management Information Systems are those systems that allow managers to make decisions for the successful operation of businesses. Management Information Systems consist of computer resources, people, and procedures used in the modern business enterprise.
Having decided a career path in Finance, MIS is a very important component for me. MIS is important for any business that wish to be successful because it helps them build a strong infrastructure of the information through which tasks are carried out efficiently. For instance, If I happen to work for a company as their financial analyst, I would be required to work through a MIS designed to run the company. I will be required to perform my tasks through a system which will include dealing with a computer software through which the financial information will be reported. It would require me to communicate with other staff, report some information to them, and understand the tasks and completing them through the platform provided. These tasks may require me to use a computer, a printer, internet, software for financial analysis and data input, and all these components will help managing the tasks as required by the system.
These management information systems contribute to business goals because without them a business can not be carried out successfully. They help a business organize and work through a system that sets up a standard a platform for the company to operate. The company managers can use these systems for the successful carrying of the company by taking advantage of the technology and the resources available. Today, businesses can use computer based applications that can perform almost any task very easily and efficiently with very little costs to maintain. For instance, a business may have a server for all its departments to which all of the computers could connect and share information as required. With the use of different applications, many tasks can easily be completed; from preparing financial statements to marketing and management tasks. A MIS can do so much for a company if utilized efficiently that if made correctly, chances of a business being successful could be really high.

My Community Involvement

Community Involvement is very important for an individual to be recognized. I happen to be a very social person and love community involvement. There isn't much one can do to get involved yet there is enough things to gain recognition in the community. I've been involved in my community through various channels. As mentioned earlier, my personal business allowed me to operate on a very small geographic scale. However, I sold many items to people around the GTA and sometimes had repetitive customers or people being referred by those old customers. I believe it was an important recognition because there is many people now outside my social circle who know me and know what I do. In my opinion, with regards to business, this is very important because if a person is not somehow involved in the community and not recognized, chances are that if they open up a business some day they will initially not be very well recognized in their community. This is related to my career goals since one of my career goals involve opening up my own business and I think recognition is a very key issue for its successful establishment as people would know who I am and could trust me better.

My Employment History

I started working when I was in grade 9. However, at that time my employment was not related to my career goals. As a matter of fact, I had not even thought of a career. I came to realize what I wanted to do in life as I preceded with my work experience and worked with better companies and in different positions. As mentioned in my previous post, I have also acquired some experience in business by starting my own little business. Every step I took and every other job that I did was a result of my previous achievements and experiences. I started off by working at the Dollar Store. It was obviously not a very good job and only a starter, but it was some valuable experience as it gave a head start to look forward to managing my time and money and also taught me some valuable customer service and communication experience which is to some extent related to my career goals.

My next job was a big jump up. I worked at the Best Buy Canada for the summer of 2008 and and learned a lot of valuable things and gained a lot of experience in an environment that I happened to like more than I could imagine. Working at Best Buy did not just feel big but also a bit professional because the company mainly deals with electronics which is one of my strong points. I possess a lot of knowledge in electronics and I believe it is a very valuable asset and helped me with my experience at the Best Buy. I worked there as a sales associate and learned a lot of customer service, communication and sales skills. I loved doing sales, and every time I would sell something, It felt like an achievement. This was where I learned that I love to sell and that it could be my strong point. I realized that I had a lot of interest in business and sales which also caused me to think about starting my own little platform where I could further polish my skills to sell for myself and have my own profits.

My last work experience was a similar my previous work. However, it was private business and required me to handle more duties. It was a private cellular phone store that sold a variety of cellular phones and accessories that are commonly not sold through even big Canadian providers like Rogers, Bell etc. My duties included handing sales, providing customer service and troubleshooting, stocking, handling cash and reporting financial documents. Overall, I am very pleased with my Employment history and I believe that with every opportunity taken I achieved something of a great value that will help me in my future.

My Personal Achievments

Ever since I got in high school, I have been doing little business activities from selling cellular phones to bigger electronics like televisions and entertainment systems for profit. Even though operated with small quantities and limited geographic reach, it has still been a very good experience to learn from. I have also worked in sales and retail environment where I didn't just have to sell a particular product but also handle the cash and some financial documents such as sales receipts and documents indicating the day to day sales and closing profits.

Moreover, I have also invested into short term stocks. This has helped me gain the knowledge about stocks and learn how the stock market works. It has also enabled me to think about different strategies through which stocks can be bought. For instance, one can purchase stocks for safety, income or growth depending on their will and the amount of risk they are willing to put into it.

I believe that being involved in such activities has not just been a great experience but also a great achievement and practice for future. Even little experiences count a lot as long as they help one achieve what they want and give them information that is helpful for them in the future. With this experience, I have learned a lot and I think it is very important for one to keep themselves involved with anything that is related to their career because it helps them decide the level of interest they have in their career path and gain knowledge and experience at the same time.
