Before relating to my career, I would like to briefly explain what the MIS (Management Information System) is. Management Information Systems are those systems that allow managers to make decisions for the successful operation of businesses. Management Information Systems consist of computer resources, people, and procedures used in the modern business enterprise.
Having decided a career path in Finance, MIS is a very important component for me. MIS is important for any business that wish to be successful because it helps them build a strong infrastructure of the information through which tasks are carried out efficiently. For instance, If I happen to work for a company as their financial analyst, I would be required to work through a MIS designed to run the company. I will be required to perform my tasks through a system which will include dealing with a computer software through which the financial information will be reported. It would require me to communicate with other staff, report some information to them, and understand the tasks and completing them through the platform provided. These tasks may require me to use a computer, a printer, internet, software for financial analysis and data input, and all these components will help managing the tasks as required by the system.
These management information systems contribute to business goals because without them a business can not be carried out successfully. They help a business organize and work through a system that sets up a standard a platform for the company to operate. The company managers can use these systems for the successful carrying of the company by taking advantage of the technology and the resources available. Today, businesses can use computer based applications that can perform almost any task very easily and efficiently with very little costs to maintain. For instance, a business may have a server for all its departments to which all of the computers could connect and share information as required. With the use of different applications, many tasks can easily be completed; from preparing financial statements to marketing and management tasks. A MIS can do so much for a company if utilized efficiently that if made correctly, chances of a business being successful could be really high.
